Medical School and the Process of Gaining Acceptance

The process in choosing a medical school as well as the selection criteria and academic criteria in getting accepted into medical school will be covered in this medical summer school course. Although the selection and acceptance into UK University Medical Schools are similar, particular attention is given to the process involved in applying for and gaining entry into the "top" UK Medical Schools.

How to Approach UKCAT and BMAT

The United Kingdom Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT) is required by most medical schools in the UK, be it for undergraduate or post-graduate admission. In our experience, the right practice and preparation can make a big difference to your test score.

Our medical summer school course includes tuition on each of the five components of the UKCAT test: verbal reasoning, quantitative analysis, abstract reasoning, decision analysis, and situational judgement. For each component, you are taught various methods and techniques (and tips and tricks) for arriving at the correct answers. You are then given a large number of mock questions on which to practice what you have learnt, with the tutors constantly on hand to iron out any remaining weaknesses.

The BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) is especially challenging, and so presents well-prepared candidates with an ideal opportunity to stand out from the competition. It is a crucial component of the selection process at the medical schools that require it.

Our medical summer school course covers all areas examined, including problem solving, understanding argument, data analysis and inference, scientific knowledge, and essay writing. The tutors aim to cover as much material as possible, and to illustrate theory with worked-through BMAT-style questions.

At the end, you are given a full-length mock test under exam conditions. This enables you both to get a good feel for the test and to pinpoint any remaining areas of difficulty.

How to Write a Personal Statement

Understand the anatomy and what to include in your personal statement to make it “stand out”.

A personal statement as its name implies should be individual and by working first in groups and then one to one with our medical tutors who have been through this and can pass to you their first hand knowledge you will be asked to produce your own personal statement. Questions such as “What have you done in your spare time to further your path into becoming a doctor?” , “Why do you want to study medicine ?” and many more will be discussed in tutorials where you will gain the confidence and get “ideas” from your tutors and peers and be surrounded and supported by like minded students.

The Daunting Interview Process and How to Gain Confidence and Answer Questions

The taught part of the workshop covers background information and interview theory, including types of questions asked and how best to tackle them. You are then given a full-length mock interview followed by detailed feedback on your performance, with due attention paid to body language and ‘paralanguage’.

As the mock interviews are carried out in small groups of four to five, you are able to experience a full range of question types, build up your confidence, and learn from the strengths and weaknesses of your peers.

You will work together in small groups to learn essential knowledge, techniques and build confidence.

medical school field visit summer school

On the medical summer school course you will:

  • dramatically improve your interview skills to help you secure a place at medical school
  • become more aware of the range of issues that may arise at the real interview
  • we will help you maximise your knowledge and encourage independent thinking
  • appreciate how important it is to consider both the arguments for and against an issue
  • refine your communication skills, body language and make a great first impression
  • avoid common mistakes
  • discuss possible questions and answers on your personal statement
  • impress the Interview Panel with your enhanced knowledge, technique and confidence
  • sell yourself effectively and confidently
  • get help with formulating answers to difficult questions
  • polish your individual technique
  • gain insight into different types of work experience

Learning objectives

Key learning objectives if you attend this medical summer school course will be:

  • to understand the application process in applying to Medical School in particular emphasis is given on the application process in "Top Medical Colleges"
  • to thoroughly prepare you for all aspects on entering Medical School, the exams, interview and personal statement so your actions become “second ” nature
  • to understand medicine and its various specialities as a chosen career path
  • to gain academic and practical knowledge in life as a doctor

Practical skills workshops

A particular highlight of the medical summer school course is the opportunity that students have to gain practical “hands-on” experience in a Medical Skills laboratory. These sessions allow students to practise using medical equipment and performing medical procedures, from using a stethoscope, testing sensation and examining the eyes to blood-taking and cannulation.

My son was here last summer. He enjoyed the Business Enterprise course and loved the different activities after class. Great welfare too. Accommodation was suitable, and food was OK. Overall, a good experience that helped him get through the first semester of college.

My daughter is very satisfied with this institute. She took the Sumer Intensive English Course. We are immigrants from India and I want her to be able to speak the language with confident. The experience of a lifetime. I took the LAW SCHOOL PREPARATION SUMMER COURSE here in Lite Regal, mainly because I needed some help with my stage fright. It gives me a lot of anxiety just by talking in public, and as a future lawyer I need to overcome that; the tutors here in this institute gave me the real tools and made me feel more secure about myself, so I won't have any problems when I begin my career. From the students to the tutors, they all helped me a lot and I am grateful to them.

I was home sick at first, but after a few days I made many friends - up to this day we still talk to each other... The staff were friendly, especially the activities leaders. Activities coordinators were the best, we had such a wonderful time learning and having fun on outdoors activities. I will never forget this experience at Lite Regal, best summer course ever.

I did the Film Academy Summer Course, and I absolutely LOVED it. I got my hands on practical training in all aspects of film production, including camera work, lighting, script writing, editing. The tutors and lecturers are professionals in the Film Industry and they taught me a lot of things. I did the course in London and I got the chance to do a field excursion to the Warner Bros Studio Tour; experience was ace... Campus was great and I did a lot of friends. I would take the course again if I've got the chance.

Couldn't ask for more. My son was impressed with this course, not only it was educational but also very cultural. He took the Global Leadership course, I guess he wants to be an entrepreneur just like his father. He learned so much, I know now he is ready for College. Thank you Lite Regal.

Nice institute. I attended the Creative Writing course last summer, 2 weeks in London. Good instructors, the people were nice and you learn a lot. I give it 4 star because the food was OK and the wifi sometimes was a little slow, but other than that I was a great experience.

My daughter took the 4 week Medicine course in London. Her dream has always been being a world famous M.D., but before she started applying for the long career, I wanted her to be inspired and to see if that was her truly vocation... She LOVED the course here at Lite Regal Education, she always tell me that thanks to this institute she rested assured that she was following the right track. I am greatly grateful with this institute, they did their best in providing my daughter with the tools so she could finally make up her mind.

The school is friendly and there are lots of activitys'. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn but also enjoy learning. I applied for 6 summer schools, but out of every single one this was my first choose for so many reasons. The wifi was dropping in the evening on few occasions. When I complained about the wifi they told me that the router was far away from the room. But luckily they gave my me a better room.

I remember having a great time last summer attending the 4 weeks course in Cambridge. It was a marvelous experience. I attended the course for Engineering Preparation, very complete and inspirational. The staff are talented people and the students I met there were amazing, it was educational but fun at the same time. I certainly hope this course will help me with my application to the University of Cambridge.
